“Understanding the Alphabet Soup of Government Benefits” was the topic for our February Friday Forum. Sherri Schneider, Founder and President of Family Benefit Solutions, was our featured speaker and she addressed a packed house of over 60 parents, educators and service providers.

Sherri’s presentation covered what she calls the “House of Benefits” including SSI, Medicaid, SSDI and Medicare. She discussed Social Security’s definition of disability and what kind of information is needed to apply for benefits as well as how not to lose those benefits down the road. Finally she talked about Medicaid waiver programs, SNAP and future planning through special needs trusts.

Through Family Benefit Solutions, Sherri has been dedicated to helping individuals with special needs and their families for over 25 years. She is also Vice-President of the ARC of Illinois and on the faculty of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
