We kicked off our 2020 Info Tours with a visit to two Glenkirk CILAs (Community Integrated Living Arrangements) in the northwest suburbs including one of their Smart Homes, which featured advanced technology to support in-home independence, communication, and accessibility for residents. Devices in the Smart Home included a Smart Refrigerator, Google Hub and Minis, Smart Lights, Nest Thermostat, Ring Exterior Camera, a Smart Scale, and Roku Remotes. Glenkirk currently has two CILAs with Smart Home technology, one in Buffalo Grove and one in Mundelein, with another one planned in Arlington Heights.

Glenkirk provides quality, lifetime supports and services that empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate fully in all areas of community life. In addition to CILAs, their residential services include Family Living Arrangements, the Moraine Community Living Facility, and the Foundations for Neighborhood Living Program. Residential program participants receive integrated, wrap-around clinical services including medical care coordination, counseling and therapy, and behavioral intervention supports to promote personal health and development and to remove barriers to successful, long-term community living. Glenkirk also offers day and employment programs, In-Home Respite, medical coordination and behavioral health services.

CTC Informational Tours are designed to provide useful information regarding residential models, adult day services, vocational options, and more. It is our hope that these tours will show families not only what services currently exist, but also inspire with what might be possible as we all work to create full and meaningful lives for our children.

Thank you to Nicole Zanon for planning and facilitating our tour. For more information about Glenkirk, visit their website at glenkirk.org.
